"Can Obama change the Middle East? No, he can't ," says Charles Glass in his rewiew of Patrick Tyler's A World of Trouble: America in the Middle East.

Glass criticizes Patrick Tyler's account of the America's role in the Middle East since FDR . He asks, "Is it really 'Oriental complexity' that fed the resistance to American domination of Arab and Iranian societies or the natural desire of people to govern themselves and be treated as equals in the community of nations? Was it Oriental complexity that compelled thousands of Iraqis to resist American occupation after 2003 as they had occupation by the British after 1920?

One yearns for complexity in Washington to accommodate the wish of Middle Easterners to rule themselves, but history as chronicled by Tyler and put into play by presidents from Roosevelt to Obama points to simplicity. And, of course, consistency."

Outdoor living spaces with an outdoor kitchen area have become very popular and can expand the overall living area of your home significantly, so a properly designed outdoor kitchen is an essential part of the equation, and it's not so difficult that you have to bring in a professional to design it for you. A bit of thought and research goes a long way!

Budget. Naturally, the first thing to decide on is your budget. Just as the kitchen and bathroom inside your home are the most expensive rooms in the house to design and build, the same can be said for an outdoor kitchen, so you want to get it just right first time around.

Location. Look at your outdoor space and decide where is the best place to locate the kitchen area. Ideally, the kitchen should be under cover and on the sheltered side of the yard so that you can use it year round whatever the weather, and it needs to be close enough to the house to get access to water and electricity.

Materials. Stainless steel looks fantastic and is an obvious choice for an outdoor kitchen as it will withstanding the elements well, however, it's also an expensive option. No need to fear. Concrete is a great choice for the countertop area - it's silky smooth so easy to clean, and it can be stained to match your decor. Concrete can also be tiled, in which case the finishes are limitless, or various natural stones can be used for the counter, such as granite. Think of the style of your home and pick something that will blend with that.

Function. A functional kitchen is important. Get the basic essentials in, such as a sink, fridge and barbecue, and then think about the extras that you may want. Most outdoor kitchen ideas will either be an L-shape or a simple straight line. You need to make sure there is a bit of counter space, and a great way to set it up is to have the kitchen work area on one side of the counter with a bar counter on the other side so that the chef can be part of the party when entertaining. If you opt for a concrete countertop, the sink can included in the mould, which is a great idea as there are no seams to collect germs or to leak. The same applies to a stainless steel unit.

Layout. Something to remember when designing the layout of your outdoor kitchen is where the services (water and electricity) are coming from - it makes sense to have the sink and fridge located within a reasonable distance of these services. If you plan to have an electric barbecue, the same applies, but there is more flexibility in the location of a propane gas barbecue. Do you wish a built-in barbecue, do you want a mobile barbecue but that looks built-in or do you want your barbecue to be fully visible in all it's glory?

This summer could be your time, just find out more about outdoor kitchen ideas and get busy building or buying one, it will service you for many years to come.

Twenty-seven new first class hotels in Dubai will welcome tourists in 2012

February 20, 2012 – Dubai is a thriving region of the world, with a robust economy and growing real estate market the envy of real estate professionals around the globe. 2012 is also expected to be a year to remember for Dubai hotels, with a total of 27 new first-class hotels in Dubai expected to open their doors to traveling tourists in the coming months. The next year is looking just as good, with 12 new first-class hotels already planning to open their doors to hungry tourists looking to enjoy great weather, fine food, and great times. Just two years after the new hotel market in Dubai received an injection of funds from big brother Abu Dhabi, an amazing collection of new hotels are set to open in Dubai.

By continuously backing the wrong parties in the Middle East, the United States is prolonging, and in fact contributing to and exacerbating, the conflicts among Israel, the Palestinians, and Arab states.

By steadfastly, and often irresponsibly, backing Israel - or at least not actively condemning its actions - the United States has essentially been complicit in some of Israel's worst atrocities, and most egregious and flagrant abuses of both the Palestinians and longstanding international treaties. So long as Israel has such blind and sycophantic U.S. support, it has literally no incentive to negotiate or soften any of its Zionist positions. By the same token, such a circumstance gives the Palestinians very little reason to negotiate or cease violent resistance, since they have no trust that the United States is ever going to grant them any credence whatsoever.

Two critical points are salient, though undoubtedly unpopular.

First, Israel was founded as a direct result of Zionist terrorism and Western capitulation to that terrorism; it is, literally, a successful terrorist state, and it continues an essentially terrorist occupation and incarceration of an utterly disenfranchised population.

Second, Hamas - dismissed by the United States as simply a terrorist organization - is also the legal representative of the Palestinians, having won free elections, outright; it is also a significant provider of social services and support in a territory intentionally and illegally deprived by Israel of goods and services necessary for any tolerable level of civil sustenance. Perhaps more importantly, Hamas enjoys far more credibility among the Palestinian people than does former president (his term has expired) Abbas, who is seen rightly as corrupt and a puppet of ... the United States and Israel.

The argument frequently cited, that we 'do not negotiate with terrorists,' is simply and baldly, false. We have negotiated with so-called terrorists on multiple occasions. We negotiated with North Korea; Iran, during the hostage crisis; the IRA, to help bring an end to the 'Time of Troubles, and others.

We gain nothing by shutting out Hamas, and preclude virtually any possibility of progress by doing so - after all, why should Hamas soften its position unless we give them something to gain? By involving all parties, including Hamas, and putting Israel on notice that its worst abuses and infractions of longstanding agreements will not be tolerated, and may elicit fiscal reprisals, the United States could vastly increase Israel's incentive to behave responsibly and actually negotiate in good faith instead of simply remaining the 800 pound gorilla sitting on the Palestinians.

If we were to include Hamas, and deal fairly and objectively with all parties - rather than being unilaterally biased toward Israel, it may actually provide Hamas with credible reason to become less flagrantly hostile, and perhaps a more reasonable negotiating party.

I am not a defender, by any means, of Hamas' continued launching of rockets upon civilian populations; but neither can I defend an 800 pound gorilla terrorising an entire captive population for over fifty years, even if it does purport to be a democratic state.

It is interesting to see the difference in how the Middle East views the US. Tonight, I was reading Al Jazeera and there is this interesting story about the U.S. Why use Al Jazeera? Well, I suspect that the Middle East is shaped by their news as easily as we are. We believe what we are told. While it is up for debate the extent of influence that political leaders have, i.e. our press controls our politicians while their politcians control their press, it is still a fact that people often believe news agencies give them the news.

Keeping this in mind, it was interesting to read an article this evening entitled "Why the West needs Ahmadinejad." This article refers to him as an austere leader. It basically ascertains that Ahmadinejad is instrumental to Tony Blair and George Bush. The article points out that he is a professor and the first Iranian leader who is not part of the religious establishment, at least the first since the revolution. In the Middle East he is referred to as Dr. Ahmadinejad, due to his status as a member of the faculty at Tehran University. It is also he, claims Al Jazeera, who can save the Bush and Blair from the "policy disaster in Iraq."
